All that Jazz!!

Get ready... It's coming....and it's FREE!!

Fort Smith is an area of entertainment. Admit it... if we're going to eat, we want it to be delectable. If we go to the movies, we want to be dazzled. If we go to a party, we want it classy.  And if we listen to music, we don't want to just listen to it... we want to savor it.

A few like-minded individuals got together to make this happen. We definitely have our specialites in the enjoyment of music.  The Fort Smith Symphony invokes our tears. The Blues Fest compels us to let loose and enjoy a friendly atmosphere.  Downtown Fort Smith caters to our need for live music on a regular basis, be it through community functions, concerts, or even just a Saturday night in a smooth lounge while we share some drinks with friends on an evening out.

And now, it's the season for Jazz.

The Fort Smith Jazz Festival is going to be June 4, 2011 from 3-10(ish) at Ross Pendergraft Park, downtown on Garrison. The event is free of course, and we encourage everyone to bring their chairs, blankets, and some cold drinks to enjoy a night of world-class Jazz. Playing will be names synonymous with greatness – names like Northside High School, Don Bailey, Scott McQuade, Tommy Crook, and Pidgin Band!  Food and drinks will be available by on-site vendors.

With so many types of Jazz, there’s something for everyone – no matter what your flavor!  So bring the family and have a musical afternoon picnic, or experience the evening feel of an open-aired Jazz lounge with friends or a loved one. It’s guaranteed to be a day you won’t forget!

Our Vendor: Cara's!!

Yes - we all know who she is. Extreme southern-cooked goodness with a guilt-free flair! Cara's will be there with yummies for the whole family! What's on the menu, you ask?...

•    Shredded Chicken Tacos
•    Nachos
•    Chips and salsa
•    Popsicles
•    BBQ sandwiches
•    Watermelon slices
•    Drinks (I heard a mention of Homemade Lemonade!!)

How better to start the Summer than with good food and good Jazz?

I'm in high anticipation for this year's Fort Smith Jazz Fest. Our band doesn't play too many festivals so this will be a treat! Playing the same stage with the level of talent that it looks like will be at the event is definitely humbling. We hope to bring a four to five piece group to the festival. We hope to see lots of folks there!

I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to play at the Ft. Smith Jazz Fest. Ever since I went to the Jazz Fest some 6 years ago, I have wanted to play there. Living in the Ft. Smith area, being so close to the festival site, it will be one of the more memorable gigs I have played. There is so much talent in this area, it is truly an honor to play this festival.

In my opinion, Ft. Smith would do well to have more family music festivals like the Fort Smith Jazz Fest.
